Stayed at the hotel before and went back because the location is so good. Very frustrating that you have to walk so far to get a lift because the hotel is so big – we were lead on a wild goose chase from the guy in reception.

I would never stay there again. It’s impersonal, noisy, crowded with no amenities.
#3 by Louis - July 12th, 2009 at 22:52
Good price and location, everything else quite average
#4 by Wilson - July 12th, 2009 at 22:52
The location is exceptional. We’ve been twice there and we hope to come back again. This year the breakfastroom had been restored and it was much nicer than the year before. Breakfast is a bit poor I have to say. Employees at reception and conciergerie were all really helpful and nice.

The absence of mixer unit between (separate) sink taps for cold and for hot water seemed a little uncomfotrable

We were really surprised with its reasonable quality and hospitality we received for such attractive price (after all negative reviews we had read before the booking on typical London hotels)! I’m sure it wasn’t our last visit to Royal National and I book it again soon.

I would certainly stay in this hotel again. It had very little traffic noise & was generally very quiet throughout despite it being comparatively full. The only downside was the standard of food which was very basic & not very good. Otherwise it’s a good reasonably priced hotel for London & the area.

Very well located, rooms a bit small but really ok(only no hairdryer in the room). Breakfast varied and substantial. satff enough available to help you. I would stay again and I recommend it

vacuumcleaning is something they don’s do very much, the halls were dusty and they didn’t vacuumclean our room during our stay (4 days)! rooms are simple but good, although you can get a better room for the price they ask. continental breakfast is BAD. only toast and jam. no cheese or ham, no eggs. very unfriendly personell. very large at long tables, not nice. i stayed at another hotel a year ago, they didn’t charge any more but offered a lot more (especially the feeling that you are welcome) check in at this hotel BAD. we were 15 minutes early (it is check in at 1400 in stead of 1300 ) and they wouldn’t help us. when we came back around 1415 there was an enormous amount of people checking in… Next time I’ll choose a hotel with no more than 40 – 50 rooms. these are friendlier and give you more service

Good Location (very near Russell Square and British Museum) just providing beds. Room setting feel like in hostel with a lot of students in this hotel and so quite noisy. Terrible breakfast because too many people, crowdy and messy.
#11 by Jakayla - July 12th, 2009 at 22:53
nicely surprised with very good breakfast
#12 by Kevin Hart - July 12th, 2009 at 22:54
Location is perfect – we were able to walk to all the top shows we wanted to see and also able to catch the Tube from Heathrow to the hotel without changing lines. Having tea making facilities in the room was a bonus. Excellent for the price.

Very big hotel with many rooms.
Pro’s: location near by British Museum and transport (undergroud, Euston Station and St. Pancras International.) free WiFi in lobby, Indian restaurant, pub and cash machine
Con’s: centrally controlled heating: rooms are hot and you can’t put heating off, free continental breakfast is poor, too many people in the breakfastroom, lack of control, shortage of food.
#14 by Omarion - July 12th, 2009 at 22:55
We have learned never again to book a hotel where the Breakfast room isnt shown on the internet! It was a ‘factory’
#15 by Chasity - July 12th, 2009 at 22:56
Good basic hotel to base yourself in. Rooms are 7/10. Location is close to Russell Square underground and it is also a 20 minute walk to St Pancras International station so it is not too far. To put your bag in storage; it is free if you are checking in that day, but if you are checking out that day it is 50 pence a bag to leave your luggage there. Continental breakfast in the morning is good and the restaurant is reasonable for dinner and is open until 1.30am.

Location is excellent. The words like hospitality, warm ambience are not applied for this hotel. The number of guests is huge. During breakfast I was amazing how skilful is organized service to manage by crowds. It is good just to sleep one night and go to British museum or for business.
#17 by Marcelo - July 12th, 2009 at 22:56
Book this hotel for the location and the price – the hotel itself is ok – nothing less, nothing more.
#18 by Deanna - July 12th, 2009 at 22:56
Basic hotel. Noisy, hot rooms, dubious bedlinen(holes). Dirty WC.
Near tube.
#19 by Arianna - July 12th, 2009 at 22:56
check in too slow, rooms overlooking courtyard are very noisy
first room was very gloomy, second room was quite nice, small but clean.
#20 by Juan - July 12th, 2009 at 23:52
Excellent location. Clean, comfortable at very competitive prices. Have stayed there before and will stay there again. Recommended.
#21 by Vesa Pippuri - July 12th, 2009 at 23:52
the room was very noisy due the fact that the street had a lot of traffic. Also the water system in WC and bathroom was very oldfashioned, I could not believe that this kind old system still existing. Also during my stay came fire alarnment (one restaurant had fire) and all had to go outside.
#22 by Rodolfo - July 12th, 2009 at 23:52
Nice place to stay at – excellent location, reasonable price.
#23 by Jude - July 12th, 2009 at 23:52
The continental breakfast could have been better.
#24 by Stefan Andersson - July 12th, 2009 at 23:52
We were a group of 7 people who stayed for 3 nights. I was not so sure what to expect do to other reviews, but it was better than expected.
Yes it was a huge hotel and a lot of youngsters, but in the night the fire doors was closed so mthe noice wasn’t any problem. As we paid about 55Ј for the twin rooms it was really value for the money. 20 minutes walk to east end and 3 minutes to Undergrown. A tips: take the Big bus tour or Original bus tour outside the hotel and you will see the most of London.
#25 by Anders Kjems - July 12th, 2009 at 23:52
The room telephone looked dirty and the TV remote had a lot of button that did not work!
#26 by Madelyn - July 12th, 2009 at 23:52
This is a hotel servicing large tour groups. The breakfast service is minimal and will feel like a school canteen. It’s a high-throughput hotel, which independent travelers might want to consider before booking.
#27 by Tara - July 12th, 2009 at 23:53
Breakfast food was VERY dissappointing and we were not in the breakfast room we were suppose to be in, the big round tables seated 10 people which is not very nice if theres only two of you and surrounded by a large family as all the tables were full. —- It would have been nice to have had some sort of shower soap in the bathroom instead of the little bars of soap that break as soon as you use them.
#28 by Damien - July 12th, 2009 at 23:53
Royal National Hotel London is providing excellent facilities for the customers for a reasonable price. I would recommend it highly for your future stays.
#29 by Andrew Ollerenshaw - July 12th, 2009 at 23:53
Had an okay stay here. If you remember this is budget accomodation and adjust your standards to that then this is good value.
#30 by Ingmar Olofsson - July 12th, 2009 at 23:53
Excellent location close to British Museum & Covent Garden. Like most hotels in London (except very high class), also Royal National is a bit worn – but very charming. The breakfast arrangement is like a huge military camp, where you will meet people of all ages, and from all parts of the world. Good value for money, I will certainly return !
#31 by guillermo zaragoza - July 12th, 2009 at 23:54
A budget hotel that feels like a “real” one and not a guest house. Breakfast is not too good, and due to the huge size of the hotel, is crowded, but the rest is wonderful.
#32 by Lisa Elliott - July 12th, 2009 at 23:54
Perfect location for exploring London city by foot or underground. Easy access to all sights. In a fairly quiet neighborhood in Bloomsbury next to British Museum. We have stayed there twice and enjoyed both visits. Good value
#33 by Elsa - July 12th, 2009 at 23:54
I already recommended the Royal National Hotel to my friends…
#34 by Josephine Bugeja - July 12th, 2009 at 23:55
We had a very comfortable room for three persons and the sevice is very good. We are sure that our next visit in July will be at the Royal National Hotel London.
Many thanks
#35 by Gunnar - July 12th, 2009 at 23:55
Suits my needs well. I’ll probably use it again. Service can sometimes be slow because the hotel hosts a lot of coach trips and queues at reception can be long and slow-moving. The continental breakfast is decidedly average, but on the plus side, the location and price are good and the hotel has free wireless internet access in the lobby.
#36 by Zoe - July 12th, 2009 at 23:55
This is a big hotel with lots of rooms in the central downtwon London. Good location. The Metro station is just next door, very convenience to all sites in London within 20 minutes by train. The British Museum is only 5 minutes walking distance from the hotel. There is a park on the right side of the hotel, where you can get very nice “all day breakfast” around 5 pounds, or a cup of coffee with nice sunshine and beautiful view. We had a good stay in the hotel, hotel stuffs are nice but they are busy to take very good care of each client. The only problem I had is most of rooms are nosiy when open the windows due to the hotel is localed in downtwon and near busy streets. It is better after 1am every midnight.
#37 by Alessandra - July 12th, 2009 at 23:55
Well yes, it really was noisy and queues at the reseption were looong just as I read from other peoples comments. And breakfast was poor. But if you have only a short visit an concentrate on London it was okay. Good location what comes to underground and a short walk from the Oxford Street. Not good, not THAT bad, I would prefer some other hotel next time but…ok…would come back if I was on my own and only 1 or 2 nights.
#38 by Craig Bailey - July 12th, 2009 at 23:55
OK, it is a zoo full of tour busses, but I have stayed in much worse places and, for London, it is a good value for the price. Free wireless if you have a laptop and a free adaptor with a deposit were provided and these are perks in London. Only true dissappointment was the breakfast that could have been a step better.
#39 by Mikael Metzmaa - July 12th, 2009 at 23:56
I have stayed here five times, I belive. The price and location is the main reason. Earlier the staff has been rather unpleasent but this time it was a Great diffens to the better. The breakfast room is better to sit in and the logistics for food is better.
#40 by Donna Mahon - July 12th, 2009 at 23:57
We stayed at the Royal National for 3 nights on a b&b basis. The price was very good. The room was a triple with 3 single beds with crisp white sheets and nice down pillows, which were very comfortable and warm. Bathroom although small had a good shower/bath and lots of warm water. Only down side is the continental breakfast…..you need to fight for your orange juice! Its a bit of a hostel feel in the canteen in the morning, so we opted to have breakfast out instead. There were tea and coffee making facilities in the room. All in all, a lovely room, quick checkin, daily room makeup, fabulous location, and great rate. We will definitely stay there again.

Hotel is in a great location. Situated really close to British Museum and underground which makes it really easy to get anywhere in the city, location so good you can really walk to several places from there. Also added bonus is that many tours have a pick up service for tours from the hotel and they have a place to make any tour or sightseeing bookings during your stay.
#42 by Jessie - July 13th, 2009 at 00:52
Excellent as usual!

Great hotel with nice, clean rooms, helpful staff and in a very convenient area.I highly recommend it to my friends!
#44 by Felix Rolon - July 13th, 2009 at 00:53
Noise is a problem if you want to rest. Beds could be more confortable but they are quite hard and small all over Europe.Location is good, very close to a tube station, with direct way to Heathrow International for just 4 GB pounds. Thanks!
#45 by Rick Boeters - July 13th, 2009 at 00:54
The hotel is very good situated in the centre of London. The nearest underground station is about a seven minutes walk from the hotel. You can also walk to the British Museum from the hotel.
The rooms are very noisy, but I slept well.
Breakfast wasn’t very extensive. We only had a very small continental breakfast with some bread and marmelade/ jam. That’s all.
I was happy with my stay here, but next time I would book another hotel.
#46 by Barrett - July 13th, 2009 at 00:54
If this hotel could only improve its service and friendliness by about 200%, then I would stay here again, as the hotel location is great, the rooms are ok, and the hotel provides good value for London. But do not expect a smile, a friendly face, or even the time of day from the staff members. Maybe they are overworked/underpaid, or maybe they are just too busy, but C’mon guys-a smile after a long international flight would be a real nice welcome to your otherwise good hotel.
#47 by Mikayla - July 13th, 2009 at 00:54
clean, cheap, central. endless hot water and the quickest, most efficient checkin/out I’ve ever seen. All the facilities we needed, and terrific value – why pay more for fancier decor?!
#48 by Barry McCashin - July 13th, 2009 at 00:54
The room was clean and adequate but this is a fairly large hotel that when we were there hosted several tour groups consisting of teens apparently without a lot of supervision. There was quite a lot of noise late at night in the hallways and a lot of yelling out the windows that faced into a central courtyard. Aside from the noise, the price was reasonable and the location was good for being close to a tube station and within walking distance of a variety of sights including the British Museum.
#49 by Luis Porto Gomes - July 13th, 2009 at 00:54
It’s a Hotel with a great location for someone that wants to visit London without car (near Russel square tube station and city tour bus stop). However, it is a little bit old (specially in furniture and bathroom) and quite massive (over 2000 rooms) which might originate somes problems at the check in and at breakfast. I’ll recommend it to those who seek an hotel with an average quality in terms of comfort for a reasonable price
#50 by WAI KUEN CHEUNG - July 13th, 2009 at 00:56
Big hotel with over a thousand rooms. Good location with tube just across the road and the British Museum very nearby.
